Cisco has recently provided a great new iPhone application called Cisco SIO To Go, the application that puts the power of the Cisco Security Intelligence Operations (SIO) in users’ hands, giving them real-time access to a wealth of actionable global security information no matter where they are.

Alerts delivered include:

  • Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) Alerts
  • Cisco Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) Signatures
  • Cisco Applied Mitigation Bulletins
  • Cisco Threat Outbreak Alerts

The application also provides links to the following Cisco security news and information:

  • Cisco Security Blog
  • Cisco Cyber Risk Report
  • Cisco Press Releases
  • Cisco Security Twitter Feed
  • Cisco Security Podcasts

You can download the application from the App Store HERE

Design Council offers cash prize for Secure Phone

April 21st, 2009

The Design Council in the UK has setup a competition to develop new ways of securing mobile phone handsets.

The competition which is being backed by the UK Home Office has a prize fund of £400,000. Entrants can design a phone to:

1) Make a mobile phone less desirable to steal

2) Make personal data more secure

3) Make online and mobile transactions more secure

It’s great to see this kind of initative but from my perspective Security must be married with Useability as most of the ’secure’ solutions I see are ultimately very user unfriendly and all they do is force the people using them to find creative ways around the security.

Applicants have until 22nd May to submit their applications and the finalists will be announced on the 29th June.
