Microsoft launch Race to Market developer challenge

Microsoft have just announced their Race to Market challenge to inspire developers to create applications for the Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

Developers can submit applications to the Marketplace and the best applications will be competing for prizes such as:

  • A Microsoft Surface table
  • Online marketing and promotion
  • A one-of-a-kind trophy

The applications will be judged in the following way:

  • Most downloads of a free app
  • Most valuable app (downloads x price)
  • Most useful (as judged by Microsoft panel)
  • Most playful (as judged by Microsoft panel)

Microsoft announce Marketplace open for business July 27th and it won’t be limited to just 6.5 devices

At Microsoft’s Partner conference yesterday they announced that the Marketplace will be open for business from July 27th and reversed a decision to focus exclusively on Windows Mobile 6.5 devices by adding support in the future on Marketplace for Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 devices.

1. Application Submission Opens on July 27th: Windows Marketplace will open for application submissions from 29 supported countries July 27th.

2. Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 Support: Windows Marketplace will be available for Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 by the end of 2009 (in addition to Windows Mobile 6.5 at launch in the fall).

3. Business Center: Windows Marketplace will feature a “Business Center” category for business applications.

4. Developer Contest: Microsoft will be disclosing the details of a Windows Marketplace developer contest on July 27.

Stanford University – Developing for iPhone course now on iTunes U

iTunes U has posted the first in a series of video lectures on iPhone Application Programming  from Stanford University. The 10-week course, iPhone Application Programming began last week and videos of the classes will be posted at Stanford on iTunes U two days after each class meeting (http://itunes.stanford.edu)
