It always astounds me how many people want to use their phone whilst driving… doing so is a very bad idea IMHO! You should really concentrate on driving!
ZoomSafer is a software solution available for RIM and in public beta for Windows Mobile today. It utilizes GPS to determine that you are moving, then locks the keyboard and screen to prevent texting/emailing. Lots of other policy based features available to manage phone functionality e.g. enforce hands-free, auto-reply to let people know you are driving, update social media sites, etc.
You can see it in action in the video above!
In an interesting move RIM will give away for FREE their Blackberry Enterprise Server Software to customers.
The Blackberry Enterprise Server Express software is targeting Small and Medium size companies while the Blackberry Enterprise Server v5 software is still more focussed towards larger organisations requiring additional security policies and support for Blackberry MVS (Mobile Voice System) or integration with Microsoft OCS or Lotus Sametime.
RIM’s software revenue has been declining year on year as Microsoft and IBM/Lotus now have integrated support for mobile devices so it’s not surprising to see this move.
Probably my favourite web service and iPhone application is TripIt. Well if have a Blackberry you can now enjoy the power of TripIt with the Blackberry Application. If you aren’t familiar with TripIt it’s a service that allows you to simply forward any hotel, flight, car hire or other travel bookings and it collates them for you and provides weather, maps and even a calendar subscription so you can sync all the details to your Outlook or iCal Calendar! In the ongoing battle of the web browser Opera have just updated their Opera Mini Beta.
Available for Blackberry and Java enabled phones you can get it from m.opera.com/next, using your phone’s default Web browser or download to your computer. And it is completely free.
Amid the launch of the iPhone 3GS last week RIM somewhat quietly announced their latest revenue results.
The results showed RIM sell the same number as devices as the previous quarter with 7.8 million devices sold however new subscribers were down slightly with 3.8 million new subscribers compared with 3.9 the previous quarter. Revenue too dipped slightly.
My favourite note taking application on the PC/Mac has just received a release on the Blackberry. So if you are a Blackberry user you can now use this great application on your device.
I really like Evernote as it syncs to the cloud and allows you to keep your notes and important information on whatever device you are using!
Evernote just announced they also have 1,000,000 users so I’m not alone!

With the release of the Windows Mobile device client for Facebook I thought it’d be interesting to take a look at the respective client use for each mobile platform.
Looking at Facebook’s mobile help page there are 5 other clients available – iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, INQ and Sony Ericsson X1 Panels.
I haven’t included the mobile browser access at http://m.facebook.com
The respective usage (monthly active users) was as follows:
iPhone – 7,428,018
Blackberry – 5,333,699
Palm – 171,628
INQ – 26,844
For some reason Sony Ericsson was showing as zero so I didn’t include it.
From the client usage it looks like it’s iPhone vs Blackberry
