The Samsung i320 is now available through Vodafone. The i320 is a wonderful device and nothing quite prepares you for it’s miniscule form and it’s fantastic screen.
Unfortunately the battery life isn’t great however if you disable IR Beaming then it does improve quite dramatically and you also get 2 batteries with it anyway.
I do hope Vodafone have shipped the device with IR Beaming turned off by default. Unfortunately the SIM-Free devices don’t
The device is anywhere from Free to £120 and further details are HERE

Phatware have just released their latest version of their notes organizer for Microsoft Windows-based Desktop, Tablet, and Pocket PCs. PhatPad allows users to draw pictures, jot notes, or put a mixture of pictures and typed text on a virtual scratch pad.
I used to use PhatPad all the time but since I’ve got OneNote Mobile 2007 I have moved onto that… it’s still a great application though if you aren’t running Office 2007 (yet).

Wow – this is cool!

It’s a GPS receiver which will plug into an SD slot on a device… what’s cool though is that you can also put into it a MicroSD card.
This is a real bonus as if your device doesn’t come with GPS then you can use the GPS and have the maps stored on the MicroSD card (which are now available up to 2GB)
You can check out details over at the Spectec website

As a Microsoft employee I often get beaten up about how many other organisations are out-innovating us… something I obviously defend vehemently as I do believe we are creating some great innovations in the industry!
I read with interest the article posted on PCWorld.com about the 20 most innovative products of the year! MSMobiles called out that the T-Mobile Dash got #10 however there is a more interesting story here – Office 2007 got #1 and no Symbian based devices? (Blackberry Pearl got 17)
I’m suprised there wasn’t a mention for the Samsung Blackjack either
#1 Office 2007 – I have to admit that Office 2007 is the first release I’ve really got excited about for sometime! The ribbon view and Outlook make it worth it for me!
You can now try Office 2007 Free for 60 days. Be warned though – once you’ve tried Outlook 2007 there is no going back to 2003….
You can get the trial HERE

Vodafone have released the VPA Compact IV. This device is effectively the HTC Herald or the P4350 in HTC naming terms. It has an internal memory of 128 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM as well as quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Bluetooth and WiFi b/g.
The keyboard slider mechanism is ‘assisted’ and the overall device is very thin for a keyboarded device – it’s as thin as the previous iterations of devices without keyboards such as the JAM, JAMin and Prophet variants.
You can get more details from Vodafone site (in German) HERE

Following on from my Daylight Saving Changes post. You should also be aware that any device which uses AKU 3 (or above) already has the changes to support the new Daylight Saving changes.

After my ramblings about how great the Slingplayer is I thought I’d also share this announcement I saw in that Access have released the NetFront LocationFree player for Pocket PC.
LocationFree is the Sony competition to Slingplayer. You can also get a LocationFree player for the PSP.

Well 2006 was definately the year of smaller Windows Mobile devices as we saw the miniscule HTC S620, Blackjack, Samsung i320 and i-mate SPL emerge.
With all the speculation it looks like 2007 might be the year of BIG Windows Mobile devices.
Slashgear spotted a Tatung supposed UMPC form factor device that was running Windows Mobile at Computex 2006.

Slashgear was also carrying pictures of the HTC Athena device too.
When I talk with customers many are looking for the old XDA 2 style devices with a 3.5 or 4 inch screen for line of business applications as most of the newer devices seem to be carrying smaller (and square) screens.
I’d love to hear people’s thoughts – do you want bigger devices, do you see demand for them?
Please post a comment on your thoughts!
