September 30th, 2006

Parrot have announced their MK6000 Car Kit which incorporates A2DP Bluetooth Audio streaming.

I was looking for a BT Car Kit when I bought my new car but ended up getting an integrated phone module instead – this unit is seriously tempting !

I’d love to be able to stream the audio from my Windows Mobile device to the car!

Suppressing cannot connect messages

September 28th, 2006
Comments Off

In the space of 1 day I’ve had two different customers approach me about a problem they have with Windows Mobile in use in a Line of Business environment.  Essentially they want to stop the ‘Cannot Connect’ notification/bubble.  The problem is that it is not suppressible through a registry modification and can only be achieved through some custom coding to effectively hide the window.

This isn’t very elegant and isn’t supported by Microsoft however it does work.   :)

To suppress the notification you need to use the following code:

HWND hwnd = ::FindWindow(L”Dialog”,L”Cannot Connect”);

if ( hwnd != NULL )

              ::DestroyWindow(hwnd);

This basically hides the Cannot Connect Window.

I’ve had a few customers trying to understand the format of the Exchange Activesync logs and how they are constructed.

I found out there are two great articles available covering the formats of both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007.

Each year the IT Regatta takes place (now called Silicon Cup) which is a sailing event in Cowes where not only do we get to race big yachts but we also raise a huge amount of money for charity!

This year we had a whole fleet (well a few) Windows Mobile branded boats as well as a Windows Mobile branded Speedboat!

Jonathan Greenstead over at SportsDo used their solution to log our races and even his trip to and from the race!

Register your .MOBI address today!

September 26th, 2006
Comments Off

Nearly 3 years ago Microsoft, Nokia and Vodafone started an initiative called the Mobile Top Level Domain.  Since then a huge number of partners and what are traditionally competitors have joined this initiative.

The Mobile Top Level Domain has now become .Mobi (or dotmobi) and launches today so you can register your domain name with a .mobi extension.

So why is this exciting ? Well how many times have you tried to surf the Internet from your device only to find that all the sites have been designed for a 17″ 1024×768 screen?  How many times have you waited for a complex site to download and then given up?

.mobi defines site construction to eliminates the use of frames, heavy graphics, pop-ups and auto-refresh to ensure you can access the internet quickly and cheaply from a mobile device.

So if you access a .mobi site you’ll know that it will work on a mobile device!

Another WAP I hear you cry? Well not so… with the hugely powerful devices now available you don’t have to distill the experience down to just text!

Over 12,000 companies have already registered their brands online for their .mobi site and some sites are even launched…

For example:

info services: weather.mobi, msn.mobi

sport & leisure: kicker.mobi

entertainment: Tipp24.mobi

retail: neckermann.mobi

cars: bmw.mobi

My favourite so far – of course live.mobi – you can now access your hotmail/live mail, spaces and even mobile search!

I’ve already registered langridge.mobi with Hostway

If you want to check out a really cool service for creating for first .mobi site – go to Zinadoo.com and create your own mobile site right in the browser!
